Safe Streets for Children- House Bill 1147

Safe Streets Bill Signed Into Law

The Safer Streets for Children Bill has been signed by Governor Bill Ritter. The bill adds the existing state bicycle and pedestrian policy into law and makes a children's road safety curricumlum available for school district use.

"Teaching children about bicycle and pedestrian safety will empower them to make informed decisions about their safety and well-being," said bill sponsor Representative John Kefalas. Safer infrastructure for bicycles and pedestrians increases safety for all road users.

This bill was the result of collaborative efforts by many individuals and organizations. Thanks to bill sponsors Rep. Kefalas and Senator Bob Bacon, as well as the Colorado Safe Routes to School Partnership and The Children's Hospital.
